Anjali Rao

Anjali Rao is a television news anchor and a former broadcast journalist for CNN International, where she worked from January 2006 until August 2011. She anchored the 7 p.m. HKT edition of World Report, live from the television network's Asia news headquarters in Hong Kong and fronted CNN features such as Talk Asia.

Background

Born in 1974 in Hong Kong, Rao was educated in Hong Kong and at London's City University, where she earned a Bachelor's degree with Honors in Sociology and Media Studies.[1] In an edition of TalkAsia, she described herself as being "half Indian and half Australian."

Prior to joining CNN, Rao worked as a producer and reporter at Hong Kong's Wharf Cable Television and worked at Channel 7 in Melbourne, Australia. She went on to work at Star TV where she won the top prize at the 2004 Amnesty International Human Rights Press Awards. She is probably best known in the UK as the former presenter for Sky News and Channel 5, news.

In August 2011, Rao left CNN International without any clear explanation. A few days later it was reported that she had "become anxious to explore new opportunities in television and digital content distribution" and that she wanted to work on a project that helped to develop a new integrated lifestyle content platform. It was reported that "along with manager and business partner, Brett Gullan, the two have joined forces with Hong Kong-based branded-content production company, The Media Village, to develop and produce lifestyle and factual entertainment content exclusively for Rao." According to Rao, working hours in the highly competitive international news television business have been reason for looking to a more family-friendly job opportunity. In 2010, Rao had her first baby with husband and manager Gullan, a Hong Kong based web designer. [1]
